Quilling was an art form developed to create a secondary use for a highly precious commodity...paper. Just how valuable was paper during that time? Many early copies of books were inscribed with the owners name inside the front cover, not just to indicate ownership, but because the books were often used as collateral for loans. Quilling Tips:
Use cross-stitch patterns as another source for quilling designs. They are amazingly adaptable-- just use marquise shapes! -GSQ, -- Brass stencils are another source of inspiration for quilling designs. (contributed by Ann Martin)
